Mid-1980s – Foundation
Mill Park Community House was established by a group of dedicated volunteers in the mid-1980s. The original venue was a small room near the corner of Mill Park Drive and Blamey Avenue. In its early days, the Community House offered a drop-in service and typing skills classes, providing a welcoming space for locals to learn and connect.
1987 – Relocation to Larger Premises
As the demand for services grew, the original space quickly became too small. In 1987, the Community House moved to its current main location, allowing for more programs, activities, and community events.
1990s–2000s – Expansion of Programs
Over the years, the Community House expanded its offerings to meet the evolving needs of the Mill Park community. This included adult education programs, recreational activities, and social groups designed to foster community connection and personal growth.
NDIS Services and Disability Support
Mill Park Community House became a registered NDIS Support Agency (Provider No. 405 000 1682), offering inclusive programs for adults with disability. This includes Day Service programs, social activities, and learning opportunities aimed at building confidence, independence, and life skills. Community-based programs such as discos, men’s groups, pamper groups, and social groups for people with neurological disabilities were also introduced.
Senior Citizens Programs
Recognizing the needs of older community members, the Community House established a Senior Citizens Group, providing opportunities for social engagement, recreation, and community participation.
Childcare Services
To support families, Mill Park Community House introduced occasional childcare, offering flexible 3-hour and 5-hour sessions in a safe, nurturing environment.
Today
Mill Park Community House now operates out of three venues, providing a wide range of programs and services for people of all ages and abilities. From adult education and recreational programs to disability support, social groups, and childcare, the Community House continues to be a hub for learning, growth, and connection in Mill Park.
